B.O.W

I have been working on a BOW....block of the week....from our local quilt shop. 12 weeks and then a finishing class to possibly have a gift done for Christmas. This friday is the 5th week. I had to unstitch on one of the blocks....you'd think I would remember "right sides together" when stitching! :o)

These are my blocks so far....the quilt is designed by a shop employee. I like the fact that the blocks are different sizes. Can't wait to see them grouped all together.

Shopping

Saturday was a great shopping day with good friends! Nine of us met up at Country Fabrics in Shiloh. About an hours drive, but well worth it for the inventory and the price! Plus, they were having a 10% off everything in the store sale! I usually don't buy yardage unless it is for a backing or background for piecing. They had Fandango and I have been waiting for that line, so yardage I bought!

I can't remember the name of this line by Michael Miller, but the bold turquoise caught my eye and I could see a bag/purse with these fabrics.....again, yardage!

I don't have any batiks in my stash.....maybe a few FQ's. I found a pattern for a Fall leaf tablerunner (actually Sandy did) and thought, yes that would look great on my dining room table. Again some yardage.

Their prices were great on pre-cuts also. Pure by Sweetwater for Moda was a line I admired, so let's get some of that too! Now to make that sewing machine hum!

Oliver's 3rd birthday was great last Tuesday and he got the gift that he asked for the most. Buzz Lightyear with all the bells and whistles! Big sister, Mia, saved her money and bought it for him! A couple of the older grands know how to save their money if they really want something.....hope this way continues into adulthood....love you guys!!

Still Here

Yes, I am still here! We went to Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island in Lake Erie on Saturday. They are still working on Perry's Monument....scaffolding in place now for the past 4 years. Some day we will be able to go up into it.....maybe.

I have also been decorating a little bit for Fall.....which comes officially tomorrow, Sept. 22nd. You would never know it in NE Ohio though.....we have mid 80's today. I would love 65 deg. until Christmas.....then a couple inches of snow.....then back to 65 until next summer. I know.....wishful thinking!

I did finally send out a PIF from last year. This pincushion went to Sandy.....2 more gifties to be sent soon.

I'm getting the sewing bug again.....it had waned for awhile. That happens and now I'm ready for some serious projects, there definitely are quite a few waiting for me.
BTW....today is youngest grandson's birthday.......Happy 3rd Birthday, Oliver.....we love you!

Ugly Fat Quarters

Several months ago our Quilt Guild announced an Ugly Fat Quarter Challenge. Next meeting we were to bring one, put it in a bag with our name on it and take someone elses bag to make something from their ugly fabric. It could be anything you wanted....large or small. September meeting we were to reveal our projects....wow, what a bunch of winners! Mary made a journal cover for her partner...FQ was the plaid.

Karen made this notions caddy and adorable pincushion for her partner....the yellow was the ugly fabric. She even put some notions in it!

This gals ugly FQ was the flower centers and darling butterfly....I think maybe the binding too.

The center fabric was the ugly FQ for this tablerunner.

This travel case was made with the brown stripe being the ugly FQ. (Sorry I am not remembering the gals that stitched some of these)

Shirley made this pincushion caddy using the purple abstract fabric from her partner....it looks darling now with that purple dot.

Carol outdid herself for her partner....the ugly FQ was one of the lighter blues in the center area. Gorgeous!

Judith stitched up this darling kitty pincushion from her fabric....the green looks darling now.

Another Judith made this utility bag for her partner. The ugly was one of the verical stripes in the bag.

This gal made a casserole carrier complete with casserole dish and wooden spoon. Inside center is the recepients favorite quilt block....Carol's Star. The ugly is the binding and the "sunburst" stripes in the star block.

Karen also outdid herself for her partner....another quilt.....the ugly fabric is the dull purple color in the blocks.

Carol's ugly fabric was the blue and her partner made her some great oven mitts.

Karen's ugly FQ was the pineapple fabric and so her partner made her pineapple hot pads....too cute!

It was a fun challenge. I didn't do it this time, but they are going to repeat sometime and I am sure going to join in then!

Labor Day and a Block

We have a trailer up by Lake Erie and the big finale for the summer is a huge perch fish fry on Labor Day weekend. The night before is the official trailer and boat decorating contest. We walked around and saw some of these.......

A couple of the grandkids and DD #2 was with us....this is how they spent some of their time.

Oliver, Mia and Grandpa went fishing too.....Ollie was the only one to catch something!

On a side note, Material Girls Quilt Guild is tonight and here is my block for this month. Of course I won't win them.....I haven't in 2 years! Some time I will blog about what I did win several years ago.....the mother of all wins.....I can't complain too much about not winning quilt blocks. (no, it wasn't the lottery)
